Lewis Edward Massoletti II 

Lewis Edward Massoletti was born 12 o’clock May 1857, the third son of Lewis Edward and Harriet Massoletti. There are assessment records for Bowie County in Texas in 1879 that list Lewis Edward and his brother, William Walter. While Lewis Edward’s brothers stayed in Texas, Lewis Edward returned to Virginia. He married Lillie Eskridge Smith 10 November 1891. Marriage records show that Lillie was 23 years old and daughter of William and Julia Smith. Lewis Edward was called by the nickname, Ben.


Lewis Edward and Lillie settled in Fauquier County, Virginia. Lewis Edward was a farmer and owned a large amount of land in the county. They had 6 daughters and 1 son: Harrietta Sinclair, Julia Eskridge, Naomi Madison, Lillie Smith, Lucy Margaret, Alice Watts and William Lewis.


Lewis Edward purchased the Weaversville Grist Mill on Cedar Run in Fauquier County and owned it until it burned about 1916. Lewis Edward died 5 Mar 1927. Lillie Smith Massoletti lived later in life with her 2 daughters, Margaret and Lillie in Arlington, Virginia where she passed away on 14 May 1958. Lewis Edward and Lillie are buried in the Catlett Cemetery in Catlett, Virginia in Fauquier County.

Harietta Sinclair (14 Sept 1892 – 16 May 1955) married Joseph William Peters. They settled in Fauquier County and had 7 daughters and 1 son.


Julia Eskridge (28 Jun 1894 – 30 Jan 1923) married Clyde Lomax. They lived in the Georgetown section of Washington, DC. They had 1 son and 1 daughter.


Naomi Madison (2 Jan 1896 – 22 Aug 1987) married Leidy Lee Wilson. They lived in Catlett, Virginia in Fauquier County. They had 2 daughters. They also lovingly raised Julia and Clyde’s daughter who was 1 month old when Julia died.


William Lewis (23 Feb 1899 – 21 Jul 1901) died at the young age of 2 years and 4 months.


Lillie Smith (30 Jan 1902 – 5 Jan 1971) graduated from Fredericksburg’s State Normal and Industrial School for Women that later became Mary Washington College and is now the University of Mary Washington. She received her master’s degree from George Washington University in Washington, DC. Lillie was a teacher and principal in the Arlington County School System.


Alice Watts (18 Nov 1907 – 6 Apr 1989) married Hughie Armstrong. They lived in Catlett, Virginia in Fauquier County. They had 1 son.


Lucy Margaret (16 Mar 1910 – 9 Oct 1983) attended Fredericksburg’s State Normal and Industrial School for Women that later became Mary Washington College and is now the University of Mary Washington. She lived in Arlington, Virginia and Manassas, Virginia and was a buyer for Jelleff’s Department Store.
